What Is Needed to Set Up a Restroom Trailer?

January 28, 2022

While outdoor events can be a good time, they present their own set of unique challenges—namely, a place for patrons to use the restroom. While you could rent a few portable toilets, you could also opt for a restroom trailer rental.

Many portable toilet rental companies also offer restroom trailer rentals. Restroom trailers are a high-quality solution to the issue of providing patrons a place to use the restroom at outdoor events.

They do require some additional steps to set up though, and that’s what this article will cover.

Flat ground

Wherever your event is, if you’d like a restroom trailer rental, it needs to be on level ground. This is so that the trailer can be dropped off, picked up and drained easily.

Depending on how long you’re using it for, you’ll need to make it accessible, as it may need to be pumped on multiple days. You also want flat ground so that people can keep their balance while using the restroom.

Water connection

A restroom trailer differs from a portable toilet rental in that you’ll need a valid water source to operate it. A freshwater source is required not only for the water in the toilets but for the sink as well.

The most common water source is a city water connection, and most restroom trailers will have a specific valve labeled as such. A garden hose will suffice, as long as it has a pressure of 40 pounds per square inch and a flow rate of 5 gallons per minute.

Electrical source

In addition to a freshwater source, you’ll need electricity for your restroom trailer as well. Keep this in mind when selecting the location of your restroom trailer, as it will have to be located within range of multiple electrical cables.

Ideally, you would outfit each restroom trailer with two dedicated and independent 20-amp power circuits that are solely hooked up to the restroom trailers. If the weather is cold outside, you’ll probably want to incorporate some electrical heaters, but bear in mind that these will require a greater power source.

Consider a generator

It’s possible that you’ll experience electrical problems with your restroom trailer rental. Most of these issues stem from not getting enough power to the restroom trailer. A good way to remedy that is by using a generator.

This is especially effective if your restroom trailer is more than 150 feet away from any power source. Whether you use a generator or not, make sure that you’re using the correct power cords for the distance they’ll be traveling and the amount of power they’ll be carrying.
