Portable Restroom Sizing & Guidelines for Events & Job Sites
Figuring out how many Portable Restroom you need for your event or job site is crucial for keeping everyone comfortable and your site running smoothly. It’s not just about having enough; it’s about following guidelines and providing the right type of restroom facilities.
For Events
The number of Portable Restrooms needed for an event depends on two main factors: the number of people and the length of the event.
| Number of Attendees | 4-6 Hours (without food/drink) | 4-6 Hours (with food/drink) | 6-12 Hours (with food/drink) |
| 50 | 1 toilet | 2 toilets | 3 toilets |
| 100 | 2 toilets | 3 toilets | 4 toilets |
| 500 | 6 toilets | 8 toilets | 10 toilets |
| 1,000 | 10 toilets | 12 toilets | 15 toilets |
Additional Event Guidelines:
- Hand Washing: Provide a sani-sink hand washing station or a portable restroom with a built-in sink to ensure proper hygiene. One hand washing station is recommended for every four toilets.
- Accessibility: For every 10 Portable Restrooms, at least one must be a handicap-accessible unit.
- Restroom Trailers: For a more luxurious experience, consider a restroom trailer. They offer amenities like flushing toilets, running water, air conditioning, and lighting. They are ideal for weddings, VIP areas, or multi-day festivals.
- Service: For multi-day events, schedule daily or twice-daily service to keep units clean and stocked.
For Job Sites
The guidelines for job sites are typically based on the number of workers on-site per week. As a general rule, a single Portable Restroom can service about 10 workers over a standard 40-hour work week.
| Number of Workers | Number of Toilets |
| 1-10 | 1 toilet |
| 11-20 | 2 toilets |
| 21-30 | 3 toilets |
| 50 | 5 toilets |
Additional Job Site Guidelines:
- Hand Washing: A hand washing station is a must to meet safety and sanitation standards on any job site.
- Service: For a typical 5-day work week, units should be serviced at least once per week. However, for larger crews or projects with longer hours, a more frequent service schedule is recommended.
- Placement: Place the toilets in an easily accessible location, away from the main work areas but not hidden. Make sure the path to the unit is clear of debris to prevent accidents.
- Types of Units: A standard Portable Restroom is often sufficient, but for more advanced sites, a unit with a built-in sink or a trailer unit might be preferred.
